Low Income Energy Efficiency Program

The Low Income Energy Efficiency Program is a competitive merit-based grant program established by the Commonwealth Government to provide grants to consortia of government, business and community organisations to trial approaches to improve the energy efficiency of low income households and enable them to better manage their energy use.

BEST Employment Ltd, Inverell, Gwydir and Glen Innes Shire Councils successfully tendered to deliver the New England North West Energy Efficiency Campaign under this program. Our campaign will focus on educating low income households on how to reduce energy consumption in their household.

We will achieve our objectives by:

  • Hosting community workshops to inform participants how they can reduce energy consumption in the home by changing behaviours
  • Developing a website to provide further information and links to assist the community to change behaviours
  • Conducting Home Energy Assessments to eligible participants to identify current energy consumption patterns and provide an individualised energy reduction plan
  • Providing a rewards program for those households that achieve their energy reduction targets.

Data captured during the campaign will be provided to the Government to inform future energy efficiency policy and program approaches.
